    Daniel Chapter 6

What was Daniel's position in the government of Darius, king of the Medo-Persian empire? (v. 1)

What exceptional qualities did Daniel possess that earned him the king's favor? (Go to Daniel 1:17 and 5:10-12)

What does the Bible indicate turned the other administrators and satraps against Daniel? (v. 3-4)

What virtues did Daniel display that made it impossible for these officials to control or oust him? (v. 4)

Not able to convict him of wrongdoing, the other administrators and satraps manipulated the king into creating a law that would force his favorite administrator to choose between obedience to God or obedience to himself.  Can you give current examples of how laws are created with the intent of removing the righteous influence of Christians in government?

How should believers respond to persecution and unfair treatment according to 1 Peter 3:8-17?

The king succumbs to the advice and pressure put on him by his own administrators rather than carefully considering their motives and the possible consequences of this irreversible edict. What may have led him to follow their guidance?

Daniel's death sentence required the signature of the king and of his nobles (v. 17) From what you have read so far, do you see any similarities between the Medo-Persian and American forms of government?

Daniel had already attained a level of power and prestige that few could ever dream. Now he was given the opportunity to advance to a political position second only to the king by compromising just a little on his devotion to the LORD. Otherwise, he would not only be stripped of his title, but killed for disobeying the law!  He could have just not prayed at all for 30 days and picked it up again later, right? To whom did Daniel turn for help with his decision? Why do you think this was his immediate response? (Hint - both answers are found in v. 10)

The king had issued a decree forcing the people to look to him, rather than to any other god or man, to answer their prayers.  When faced with the dreadful consequences of his actions, to whom did the king himself pray so that Daniel would be rescued from the lions? (v. 16)

Who protected Daniel in the lion's den and what three reasons does scripture give for Him doing so? (vs. 21-23) Does and will God protect you for the same reasons?

Consider the change in the attitude of the king after witnessing the power of the "God of Daniel." Does he appear interested in the counsel of the administrators and satraps anymore? (v. 24)

King Darius once again writes a decree in vs. 26-27 (which, according to v. 8, cannot be altered - law) that directs the entire kingdom to do what exactly? How much does this contrast with his decree in v. 7?

In this chapter of history, we are taught how to face adversity for our obedience to God - with faith that is being built up through prayer and with the expectation that it is God himself who will save us.  We are reminded by the Word throughout the book of Ezekiel that God acts according to His own purpose, to lift up and to bring down nations so that "they will know that I am the LORD." This is the goal..that the Creator be known and loved by the creation.

Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
